SONY VCR Problems, Please help

Ive had a sony SLV 660HF vcr for almost 7 years now, and recently it has been having major problems. WHenever i put a tape in it seems to work fine for a while and then it just stops, the vcr emits a humming noise and then puts a wierd error code on the screen and completely locks down. NO buttons work besides power. The error message reads as follows: it is E3 followed by a number being 05 01, or 22 25.... and so on. IF anyone could offer a suggestion as to how to fix this, it would be muchly appreciated, thanx for ur time.
