Sharp DV-NC100 Wont Power On

Hi,
I have a Sharp DV-NC100 combo VHS/DVD Player that wont power on. Pushing the operate button on the front panel doesn't result in any kind of activity that I can notice.
This is a unit I rescued from the junk shop so I don't know its history, but cosmetically it looks good (both externally and internally).
I pulled the covers off to check the mains fuse, which I found intact. I also checked that 240v is reaching the PCB, so plug and mains cable seem ok.
I cant see any obviously failed component in the PSU, however I have noticed some blackening on the top of the PCB around a number of resistors in a section next to the PSU labelled "cold". I'm not sure if this means a component around here has failed, or its just an area that is subjected to constant heat in normal operation which has caused it to blacken over time.
In any case, I dont suppose anyone here as seen this before on this model, or can point me in the direction of a service manual :)
Anyway, any suggestions greatly appreciated.
