Sharp VCR Player/Recorder won't turn on Can't Post

Hello, I have a Sharp VCR that won't turn on. But when I put my head up against the Power Supply, you can hear a distinctive noise (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz). Nothing on the little led screen comes up.

Have you visually examined power supply yet? Anything Blown/burnt/broke/bulged/charred/cracked/discolored//foreign objects/fractured/puffed/smoked? Any voltages marked on connectors you can measure? Can Power supply be unplugged and voltages measured without it connected to the rest of VCR? Does (zzzzz..........) change or go away if you do unplug?

Well that should get you started.

Well, I looked at the Power Supply, nothing looked abnormal. The voltages are correct, Power Cable Can NOT be removed. and yes the zzzzzzzzzzzzzz does go away when unplugged.

Power Cable Can NOT be removed.

What about the other end of the power cable? And by unplugging that power cable I wanted to know if noise went away.

You mean the end with the Prong? Yes, that can be removed, the other end is hard wired. And yes, by unplugging the noise goes away

Let's start with a Model number.Wink
You say noise eminates from power supply and the voltages are correct.
All power supplies have a cord where the AC/Mains connects - one end attaches to the supply, other end plugs into the wall outlet. This IS NOT the cable I want you to try unplugging to see if the noise leaves.
All power supplies have one (or more) multiple-pin connectors (one end or the other can usually be unplugged) - this/these are the one/ones I'd like you to unplug to see if the noise changes or disappears. This/These are the ones you say have correct voltages?

If noise leaves, but voltage stays - should be something outboard (NOT the PS). Next would be to isolate which one of the wires leading from that plug is the offender.

Ok, I got two 2A 125v fuses, and one 5A 125v fuses. Should I replace these?

I thought you said you couldn't get to them? (Unless there's a label, etc.).
Yes, replace any BAD fuses. Put in what you take out!
