Shock Danger question Can't Post

In a typical VCR, is there any real shock danger if the VCR is not plugged-in? My son wants to disasssemble an old VCR for fun, and I would like to make sure it isn't dangerous. There's a message about shock danger, but it isn't clear whether that only really applies to a plugged-in VCR or whether some charge exists even when it is unplugged. Also, if it does retain some charge, is that likely to dissapate over time (the VCR hasn't been plugged in for perhaps a year or more).

If unplugged only shock possibility would be electrolytic capacitors. Most discharge on their own after unit is unplugged for a few minutes and ones on power supply board would have the most potential.

If its been unplugged for days - have at it!Cool

There is no danger whatsoever in tinkering around inside an unplugged VCR. Not even a little bit. Not even after it's been operating 5 minutes ago. And the only potential danger of tinkering around with the unit plugged in and operating would be on the power supply board. As long as he stays away from the rear of the unit, he can even play with the adjustments and observe the results if the unit is working.
