VCR question Can't Post

Is it normal for a vcr to bypass the signal from the coax in (ant) through the coax out (tv) when the vcr isn't on but not the line out?

Thanks for any advise.

Joe

whether the vcr is on or on standby the rf signal is passed out through the rf out socket, otherwise you would not get a picture on the tv. A/V sockets are switched off if the vcr is on standby

Is there something in setup to keep a/v on when power is off?

Thanks for any responses

I doubt it but as no make or model posted then difficult to say.why do you want to do this anyway? just leave the vcr on all the time if you want A/V signal.

To get AV the signal has to come from the tuner, be detected, if its stereo, the sound has to be decoded then sent through AV matching and buffer stages. So the answer is no, it takes power to do that. Even the RF in and out use power which is always on regardless of what position the on off switch is in. Just pull the mains plug out and you will see the picture on the TV fade out.

Answer is yes. Have the VCR switched to either channel 3 or 4, same as your TV and leave both on the same channel always. If an older set, switch channels with your digital converter box.

Hi Joe,

The A/V outputs are part of an "active" circuit, meaning it must be energized to process and pass a signal through. The coax is a "passive" circuit, thus will pass the signal with power off. There is no way to get A/V output with the machine turned off.

I believe Joe resolved this question approximately 2 years ago.
