Can a conventional Zenith Plus vcr be converted to record at the speed of 1 frame/second? Thanks. m1robert

I would say "probably possible but extremely impractical to actually try". It would require big changes to the motors, drum and capstan and servo circuits and the system control circuits at the very least. Why not just get a time lapse VCR?

Digital offers, obviously, much better performance "when it works". But in my book, a consistently working VCR is much more robust, reliable and satisfying than a perfect picture that occasionally freezes or breaks into that horrible checkerboard pattern. And the most annoying thing about digital technology is: with analog, noise on the line results in noise in the picture and sound. With digital, noise on the line results in lockup. As a professional Avionics technician working on both analog and digital circuits, I can say from experience that analog is much more reliable and free of annoying hassles. Digital offers tremendous amounts of performance in a small package - but the current AND future technology is too encumbered with cost control issues (thanks to the consumer shopping for the lowest prices) to manufacture a solid-performing and lasting product. Beta lost out over VHS because the public wanted low prices and longer recording times. Never mind that the longer recording time resulted in a horrible picture that Sony refused to put their name on.

Remember that noise looks like incorrect data to a digital circuit - and incorrect data is like trying to communicate to someone who speaks a foreign language.
