help with ideas for new show about average people splurging

Hello.
I am working on a new show for the Fine Living Network called SPLURGE. SPLURGE is a series that features three stories per half hour profiling ordinary individuals who have splurged on something that fulfills a passionate desire. Some splurges are material objects, others are experiences. Some examples are:
* A family with an average house builds a treehouse in the backyard so the kids have a place to fuel their creativity. Electricity, running water, etc.
* A family with a pirate ship in the backyard because they are…well, obsessed with pirates!
* A $200,000 home with an $80,000 kitchen.
* A couple who live on a boat on the water in Seattle…he was in the Navy and grew up on sailboats, she’s a student. They make $90,000 total and spent $60,000 on a boat. They had major problems even getting home insurance!
I'm looking for more examples and would greatly appreciate anything you think fits! Thanks.
