RCA 60" P60751EB No Picture

I have a 1993 RCA Home Theatre 60" P60751EB that has operated fine for many years, this week it started to experience some weirdness with the picture, wavy-ness, lines, flickers - the suddenly a black screen with 'spots' of tv reception that would pop up here and there, then off. At first we would turn the set off, wait a bit, then back on and the picture was just fine the rest of the evening - then tonight, it went completely black, and has remained that way. It also had a faint odor like hot electronics, nothing overpowering. Now the set turns on and sound is fine, but no picture. Any ideas? is this familiar to anyone, or should I just call a repairman?
