DVP-CX985V Problems with motor and lens. Can't Post

Hi everybody. I hope someone can help me with this. As stated I own a Sony DVP-CX985V, 400 disc DVD changer.

About a month ago the player had a problem playing discs. I took the top off to see what I could see. I saw that when the player tried to play a disc that the disc just would not spin. If I slighted started it spinning myself it would play and work just fine for a while.

I found a replacement "Sony optical lens", at Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=270317886883

I ordered it and switched mine out. Now the disc will spin up just fine, but the lens seems to not be working. It keeps saying Cannot read disc, or something similar.

I contacted the seller and they offered to send a replacement claiming that no one else had problems, and the feedback seems to agree. But I received the second one today. Installed it and I get the same results.

The only thing I notice, is the original one emitted a red light at or around the lens when reading, while I have noticed nothing from these new ones.

The problem is, now the motor on the original has gone out fully, so I cannot confirm that it's lens works still.

I do not even know what I am asking, LOL, but I would appreciate any and all help/suggestions that can be thrown my way.

Thanks.

Hello. Have you removed a soldered link from the laser. Most new lasers come with this link in place for anti-static reasons. It will not work until the link is removed. I am surprised the supplier did not mention this to you. Hope this solves the problem.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but it sounds like a good place to start

Do you know where this soldered link might be located, and what it looks like.

I can take pictures of the front and back of the unit and put them anywhere you would like to see if you can see it.
*EDIT*
OK, I took some quick pics, so they may not be the best.

The first one is the new part, the second the original. I circled this thing (hopefully the soldered link) that looks like just a ball on the new one, but looks like it has been slip up, or at least messed with on the original.

The second pic is of worse quality, but maybe you will be able to tell, if not, I can and will take more pictures.

Also, I used Image shack, some people complain about them, so if you want I can post the pics else where. THANKS!
