It's probably just a dirty laser. Try taking it apart and gently cleaning the laser with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol; clean it 2 or 3 times waiting 2 to 3 mins between each cleaning then wait 15 mins for alcohol to completely dry then try a disc.
If the laser's lens gets dirty/dusty it can't read the disc, its just like your glasses getting dirty or dusty, you wouldn't be able to read anything either.
Do not look into the laser when unit is plugged in or it will cause damage to you vision. -- Dan
