Meos 13"TV with PVR via a USB port. Advice please?

I recently bought a Meos portable tv and have used the USB recording facility which operates to a USB stick very successfully. My question is about using a portable hard drive instead. The spec' says this is possible and 1Tb is the max. and FAT 32 is the foremat.
Recording to a USB powered hard drive seems a better way to go, but which make and type of hard drive to use. there are so many? Chris.
