SONY WON'T READ OR WRITE DVD's	Can't Post

SONY RDR-HXD770 STARTED PLAYING UP BY NOT BEING ABLE TO FORMAT R+W DISKS BUT WOULD FORMAT +R's & -R's. NOW IT CANNOT ANY DVD DISKS AT ALL BUT PLAYS CD's OK. ANY HELP WELCOME PLEASE.

stripped down and cleaned lens,problem still the same. dvd display reads can't use, meaning disk unreadable, this applies to any dvd placed in machine including brand new pre-recorded movies.
Even sucessfully upgraded to latest firmware v.1.7
dvd screen on tv shows disk unreadable or incompatible disk.
any further help would be very welcome.
