dvd won't power up Can't Post

Hello, I have a Magnavox MDV456/17 DVD player, and after a recent power surge the player will not turn on. I unplugged it and opened it up, and found some pink gooey stuff leaking inside, which I cleaned up.
Does anyone know if there is a quick and easy repair to get the player working again (such as replacing a fuse)? I hope so because I don't really want to buy a new player. Thanks!

Start by measuring for Raw B-Plus voltage. Proceed to secondary voltages if has Raw.

Also post picture of "pink" stuff.

Believe it or not, when I went to take a picture of the "pink stuff," I discovered that my digital camera is also malfunctioning.
Anyway, I do not know how to measure for voltage on a DVD player or anything else for that matter. Is it easy to explain how to do it?

DVM - set to measure DCV - One probe on each pin of the largest electrolytic capacitor on the power supply board - Red on "plus/positive" terminal and Black on "minus/negative" terminal.

Don't slip and be Careful, that cap can give you a decent shock or give off a fairly large snap/spark if accidentally shorted out. Expect at least 150 Volts.

This sounds dangerous and kind of complicated. On second thought, perhaps your earlier advice was better after all!
