New TV for the family

Hi everyone I'm planning to buy a new TV for the family. My only problem I have is that I know nothing of new age TVs (LCD + DLP). I am looking for a 46"-50"+ LCD or DLP HDTV that supports 720p. If anyone can refer a couple of TVs of differant price range I will be very grateful.
My price range is $1600-$3000
