Recieving OTA HDTV on JVC HD-70G886 Can't Post

I just got a new JVC HD-70G886 70" RPTV for XMAS. I have regular (analog) cable but I understand it is possible to get ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in my area in HDTV format over the air. I also understand that you need a HDTV antenna to do this. What I don't understand is how you hook the antenna up to the TV. Do I go in the same connector as the regular cable goes into?
When I do a channel autoscan, it sequentially finds all the cable channels and then a screen appears with a little satelite dish icon and a status bar with a "0" underneath it. I assume this is trying to puck up the over the air HDTV channels but it never finds any. I have tried hooking up an HD compatible antenna to the analog cable BNC connector but it does not seem to do anything.
Is it possible to do what I am attempting?
Thanks for your help.

How far away are the towers that broadcast the HD channels from your house? Maybe you need a outdoor antenna ?
This site will help with antenna pointing and which antenna is best for your house
