Chinese TVs Can't Post

Hello, does anyone know much about the quality of Chinese TVs? There are many LCD manufacturers in China. Some of them appear to be producing to the same standards as the big brands. Does anyone know much about the reputation and quality of Chinese-made LCD (& PDP) TVs?

I would be hard pressed to tell you that you are not getting value for money. The Chinese assemble in factories that are usafe. Without medical benefits pension fund etc. Components are the same most times, I am getting old now, I remember when we laughed at so called crap coming out of Japan, Im a bit older and wiser than the last guy.

To expand on Chinese vs. Manufacturer based LCD Tvs.
Here's what you're paying for when you pay the extra hundreds for the name brand vs. the low end Chinese sets.

Usually, better engineering. Many Chinese sets are engineered these days for the best quality HD picture. Standard NTSC circuitry they just don't care about so a standard NTSC pix looks terrible.

Product support. First parts. Parts availability and reliability. These days, Chinese built badged sets are difficult to impossible to fix. Service literature is often unavailable or sketchy at best with incorrect info, especially part numbers, printed in them. Many of these companies don't have tech support or if they do the guy on the other end of the phone probably slept through his english language classes. The parts seem to be coming on a Sanpan from China because the average part takes months to get. The part you get may not even be new but sometimes stripped off a set on the assembly line that didn't pass QA or was rebuilt. Neither is reliable.

The more expensive manufacturer sets have techlines with real techs that speak the english language well (usually). Service literature that is normally complete along with updates that inform you of part and or service difficulties. Parts are usually expedited pretty quickly, normally in 10 days or less. They'll often provide complete set exchanges if the part ETA is too long.

That's the difference between the two. While the average consumer normally doesn't seem to care about these kinds of things until they need them it's the support and upfront engineering that costs money. Once the set is in the home the Chinese badged manufacturer could care less about you the customer. You'll find this out when your cheap LCD set breaks down either in the warranty or just out of it and things like length of service time become a major issue. Imagine buying a $700 larger screen Chinese made LCD today. You think you got a great deal because it's many hundreds less than the name brands. A year or so down the road when it breaks and the servicer can't get the parts the great deal suddenly doesn't look so great anymore.

Good question! my opinion may hurt many but it is what it is! Production is mainly goal for china, their business ethics revs up that even Consumers unaware of decision making and without thinking, People fall of these traps oftentimes and suddenly , Quality becomes a sudden issue when they end up in this forum! Wink. China continues and perhaps even more cause there are individual who supports it! (not to mention they're also a great contributor of global warming due to excessive manufacturing facilities)...........REPUTATION? Is very strong and growing indeed. Their love affair towards foreign countries is uncontroled, affordables, low prices gain easy access for anyone whose budget isn't a factor. however there are 2 standard issues as far as REPUTATION is concerned. ONE! Major brands such as SONY, PANASONIC, JVC, has manufacturing facilities in China as well. which china must met standards as well as other secondary manufacturing countries all over the world. SECOND, are mickey mouse branded to which they're famous of. This is their key to their success which affordable disposables is right term. we can't question to whether it's worth? but to some degree it's working business for them and their loyal costumers...........Next, QUALITY> I would give them a credit for their non-mechanical items such as: Cables, switch boxes, antenna and other audio video essentials to which quality is no regard for use...And in terms of LCD's, One should know better! but if your demand is not as high as you can afford, chinese televisions are build to work and offered less for a reason. Quality and performer LCD's are lines of endless possibility built for educated individual who demands more but can appreciate. Unfortunately it's not for everyone!....
