LG 47LW5600 Picture Problems Can't Post

I have an LG 47lw5600 that is about 3 1/2yrs old. Recently the screen has been going black but the sound remains on. This happens a few moments after I power on the set. The LG logo appears, then a normal picture for about 4-5 seconds before going black. After letting the tv rest for several hours or overnight it would turn on and work normally for hours at a time before going black again. I have done some research online and found that it could be the T-Con board or bad capacitors. I was planning on trying to fix it this weekend, but I noticed another weird problem. When the tv is working there are some dark triangular spots around the perimeter of the screen, almost like some of the LED's aren't lighting up. When I Googled that, someone said it was a problem with the diffuser in the panel and couldn't be repaired outside of the factory. I'm just wondering if it is the diffuser, or if it could be related to the other problem I'm having? Is it worth it to try and replace the T-Con board or capacitors, or should I just get a new TV?

IF posted Picture is the 'Normal picture' you get for 4-5 seconds or works normally for hours at a time, tcon & caps should be fine.

Edge-lit LED backlights with more than one burnt out LED will be the more likely ("almost like some of the LED's aren't lighting up") EXACTLY!

Is it possible, or worth the trouble/expense to fix this issue at home myself or is it a lost cause?

I'll list in order of ease, presuming item can be found. List will be from most expensive but least 'trouble,' to Least expensive but Most 'trouble.'

1) Panel (I found foreign language datasheet pdf, but I didn't research replacement - WILL be most costly)
2) Carefully disassemble panel, confirm which strips are defective and get the nomenclature off the strips so you can research if just strips are available. JUST an example, NOT for your TV: http://www.shopjimmy.com/...2-strips-1-board.htm If you left click twice on their picture you should be able to make out some "nomenclature."
3) Note which individual LEDs are not lighting - remove a defective one and see if you can match any numbers or just plain closely match physical/electrical characteristics. Many are available, for example: http://www.mouser.com/...8WLUlAWlxySRgQ%3D%3D

Thanks for your help on this. I'm going to see if led strips are available anywhere. If not I think I'll just buy a new TV. I think a comparable set to this one I bought 3yrs ago would cost as much as a new panel, and the other option sounds like way too much work.
