I am not sure about the Sharp but the Philips has only HDMI and I believe composit and pc connections no component video for non hd dvd players.
Also I know this is a lcd forum but my personal experience is Plasma far out shines LCD. I have both LCD and Plasma and the plasma has a much higher quality picture in both standard and HD and the viewing angle is much wider. The Plasma is a Panasonic and the LCD is LG neither model is on the upper end of the market but the Panasonic Blows the LG completly away.

Between this 2 TVs i recommend Sharp Aquos LC-46D85U 46 inch but you need to calibrate it if you want to get the most out of it. You can read a guide on how to do this properly here.
