LG50 Plasma wont turn on when cold	Can't Post

I have a LG50 plasma that when it is cold ie 70 deg or less it will not turn on unless you sit there and keep clicking the remote for 100 cycles or more. The power light will turn to green and then right back to red. I have put a small portable heater in front of it and that has reduced the amount of cycles it takes to get it to come on. Once it does come on the TV works perfectly. When I do turn it off it will come right back on for 30-45 min and after that its back to cycling the power again. I need some advise please. It is in the bed room and my wife is having a fit with it being 100 deg in there all the time. Thanks!!

It sounds like the power supply. Do you feel comfortable taking some readings with a multi-meter? Or maybe taking the back off the LG and looking for bulging capacitors?

Ok. Open the back of the television and take a look at the power supply first. Do you see any leaking or bulging capacitors? Also could you give us the full model number of the lg?

It is a 50PC5D-UC. I will pull the cover tonight and see what they look like.

Ok. As I look at the power supply from the back on the left side opposite where the 110v ac plugs in I see a row of capacitors. Their are 5 of them the same size a row of 2 and a row of 3 right next to each other. As I look at the ends of them with the X all 5 of them are bulged out on the end and kind of discolored. Below the row of 3 there is another capacitor of the same size that is bulged and discolored.There is also another capacitor of the same size on the very left of the board where there are 3 plugs that is also bulged and discolored. All the other capacitors that I look at on the rest of the board and the other boards the ends are nice and flat and bright silver.

Thats good news then. Replace all the caps you described if you feel comfortable soldering. Also when you put the new caps in bump the voltage up just a bit. Not sure what uf they are but say the power supply has a 10V 3300uf cap just bump the V to a 16 or 25 but keep the same uf.

Your welcome. LG and other manufacturers around that era undervalued their caps so its very common. We repair a lot of power supplies that looks the same as yours. Please update us after repair.
