Panny TH50px50u & lg dvd hdmi not working

Hooking up both of the Panny tv and the LG DVD with a HDMI cable so far is not working. Sometimes there is just a blank screen and sometimes I get a picture with a pink tone. Have replaced the DVD and HDMI cable with no success. I was thinking about having the HDMI port on the TV checked out, but read elsewhere that the HDMI port on the Panny may not be compatible with the LG DVD player. Anybody have any info on this? I am really confused. Any help would be great, thanks.
