Pioneer PDP4350 vs Panasonic TH-42PX50U Can't Post

I have pretty well narrowed my Plasma HD choices down to two models:

Pioneer PDP-4350HD or or Panasonic TH-42PX50U. I'm ready to buy.

Any input as to the the better choice is greatly appreciated.

The Pioneer has more vibrant colors but the pani produces deeper blacks. So if you watch a lot of movies then I would go with the Pani. But make no mistake these are both fine displays. I don't know what the cost difference is but I would probably go with the Pioneer if the price was the same.

Thanks for your input Robroy, and strengthening my inclination towards the Pioneer, which turns out to be less expensive than the Panasonic. Another plus for the Pioneer is D-sub 15-pin PC-connectivity via the included media receiver unit. If anybody else on this forum would like to make comments, please do so before make the buy.

Before you make your purchase go check out the LG-DU42PX12X. Make sure the XD Engine is turned on. I am curious as to what you think.

Pretty impressive specs of the LG-DU42PX12X, especially the 5000:1 Contrast Ratio, but it's just 2" too wide for my Entertainment Center wall unit. Thanks again for all the good input.

If you don't mind me asking what kind of prices are you being quoted for the Pioneer PDP4350 and the Panasonic TH-42PX50U?

Ouch that sounds high. If that's the case I would recommend the Panasonic, you can get the Pani for around $3,000. The quality is not that much different and you would save $600.

You are right, $3600 it's a little steep, but the Pani TH-42PX50U does not have a separate Media Receiver or PC RGB input or a, which is important to me. To get equal features you would have to buy a Pani TH-42XVS30 at an even higher price; best I found was around $4700. Anyway, this is all history for me now, I should be getting delivery of the Pioneer next week. After I get my digital HD cable set up, I can tell you whether the Pioneer met my expectations.

Well good luck, Pioneer is well known as having THE best Plasma TVs, so you will probably be glad you spent a little extra and got a quality product. I bought the LG DU-42PX12x for $2,800. I am a little disappointed with the picture, it is vibrant and bright and the colors are fine but there is some artifacts that I don't like. Usually on a persons face where the dark part of a cheek and the light part of the cheek joins it looks a little cartoonish. I wish I would have spent a little extra and got the panisonic. I got the Digital Video Essentials DVD and tried to tune the TV but that DVD is mainly for CRT TVs connected with component video. I am connected via DVI. When I set it up using the calibration disk I had to turn the brightness so far down that when I later tried to watch a movie it was just to darn dark. Are you going to calibrate your Pioneer with the Digital Video Essential disk? I will be curious to your results tuning your TV.

Hello,

I've been looking at plasma's and have narrowed my search to the same two. How do you like your Pioneer? You mentioned you liked the PC input, have you tested that at all?

I've had the Pioneer PDP4350 for four months now and have never regretted my choice. It met all my expectations and then some. The separate tuner makes it easy to install everything with only one cable going to the Plasma screen. The tuner box has logical controls and front RGB input to hook up a computer or X-box – no problem whatsoever. Picture quality of the Plasma is outstanding, with good blacks and crisp colors. Of course, you have to feed in a decent signal to get top quality pictures. I am on digital HD cable with Comcast.

Hope this helps to make your decision.

Hi, I just purchased the pdp4350hd about a week ago. I was wondering if you notice the humming noise coming form the media box (fan).

Hi. I'm also really interested in the same Panasonic plasma and after reading this thread and seeing the Pioneer I'm really interested in both. i haven't really decided on exactly which plasma but these two stand out very much. the one thing that i am really looking for is that the plasma i buy has HDMI input and i see these two have it. do you guys think that the prices will drop within 6 months? because at the moment the prices are kind of steep.

the LG model is very nice but unfortunately no HDMI Frown.

also does the Pioneer always come with the tuner box? and how exactly does it work? if you haven't kind of noticed I'm sort of a newbie to plasmas. plz help Smile thanks
