Please Help..Akai ED4295 contrast ratio problem

Please help... Just bougth AKAI ED4295. HD signals display in widescreen format 16:9 but SD signals fill the screen vertically but displays 2" black bars on the left and right sides of the screen. Is there any way to correct this?????
