50pl9126d/37 tv repair Can't Post

I have an 50pl9126d/37 Philips Projection TV that just quit working and I'm exploring whether it is repairable or not within reason. It has a loud hum with a picture that resembles a marble/granite counter top then it shuts off after awhile. Any ideas? A service manual (schematic) would be helpful.

Re: [Ron.M] 50pl9126d/37 tv repair [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks Ron for the service manual. I was on vacation right after my post and only now am getting back to see the response to my post. I looked through the service manual last night and must say that it is a bit intimidating as I haven't worked on anything this complex in years and don't have any test gear to speak of. I only have a Fluke Multimeter as I gave my scope to my son as he is doing some repair work on musical equipment. However; I may give it a shot as we shot our budget for our vacation and don't have the funds to replace this TV right now.

It looks like I may have a bad color wheel. Next step is to verify it which I will do this weekend and find a good buy on a new color wheel. Any ideas where to get a good by on a new color wheel?

Re: [Ron.M] 50pl9126d/37 tv repair [In reply to] Can't Post

I haven't verified that the color wheel is the problem and thus have no part number as yet. I hope to take it apart today and verfy whether the color wheel is the problem or not. I'll post my results when I have some. I'm in the midwest, Illinois.
Got the light engine apart and it is in fact the color wheel, it's shattered. The bar code on the wheel is 72CA109G001A6271523, the numbers on the ribbon cable are 175559A020 N26619. Any help will most gratefully be appreciated.

His posts actually make sense !!!!...Shocked...

drjplus;.....

I did not download the manual...(11.9 MB file on dial-up would take me to Thanksgiving day to download)....Crazy...
Is there a "DPTVxxx" number on the cover page of the Service Manual ???..
IF so , please post it...THANKS...Smile....

You might want to try looking in the Service manual for the part number...
Make sure you are at your model number in case the manual is for several models....
There may be differences , albeit slight , for different models even tho the manual covers a series of models...
Not sure that the numbers you posted for the wheel are good for a replacement..
Usually Magnavox/Philips have a 12 digit part number...
I think you have to get the complete light engne assembly...
To my knowledge , you can not get just the wheel itself...Unsure...

I got the manual from the link in your earlier post. Yes you can get the color wheel by itself though I'm not sure if I can get the right one for my TV. Replacing the light engine is out of the question as it is too costly. If I cannot find the right color wheel, I'll just scrap this TV and replace it. Thanks for your help thus far.

Sorry, I didn't understand your post or what you were asking for. No there isn't a DPTV### on the front page of the service manual, it just says CT2.0U RA in the upper right hand corner. <br>

I found a replacement color wheel that appears to be the same as my color wheel. Once it comes in I'll post whether it worked or not.

My Color Wheel came in this morning and I'm hoping to install it tonight to see if this fixes the problem.

Re: [drjplus] 50pl9126d/37 tv repair [In reply to] Can't Post

Cool Success! The color wheel was the problem and my TV is working again however; it has a spot near the middle which the color wheel supplier says that it could be a speck of dust on the lense or DMD Chip. Another problem with the TV is that periodically the sound volume goes really low so that I have to turn the volume up to 75% to get a normal listening level of 35%. This morning the sound completely went away. Troubleshooting this issue I thought that I would try to update the TV software when I discovered that the usb on the tv isn't standard. Then the sound came back to normal. I'm not sure about this issue and am trying to decide whether to pull the TV back apart to clean it to see if the spot goes away. The spot is only noticable when a light color is on that part of the screen.
