Flyback lead arcing to blue lamp on LG 54" tv Can't Post

I have an LG RT54NAT1T 54" rear projection tv which was working fine up to a week ago, it started making sparking noises and switched off.
When i opened the back, the noise comes from an arcing blue spark from one of the leads that connects the flyback transformer to the one panasonic lamp. i Removed the FBT and noticed it was badly cracked, now i replaced it and it is still doing the same thing. Can anybody give me some pointers on my next step??? must i replace the lamp? only one of the three lamps is sparking.
Thank you in advance :)

Christucky;....

Here in the USA , I have not seen a LG Projection TV....
Not saying they're not here...

Seems like you are being ignored...
Sorry about that...
I have not worked on LG TVs , ( I HAVE worked on tons of other Proj TVs) so I think I can help...

must i replace the lamp?

At this point , I don't see any reason that you would have to...

Which CRT (lamp) is the arcing at ???
Does the arcing come from the upper outside of the CRT near where a thick red wire goes into the side of the CRT ???
Are you able to take & post pix ???
How much electronic/TV repair background experience do you have ????

Please answer ALL my questions & post them...

THANKS....Sly.....

Have a GREAT day & week....Sly....

Hi Ron.m!
Thank you for your support!
It is arcing at the blue lamp (Panasonic P16LSG03BMB).
Yes the arcing is from the thick read flyback lead to the lamp roughly where i have circled in the image:

I have a fair amount of electronic knowledge (studied it for a while).
trying to fix my first 3 tv's now - wont bother you with the others just yet!
Many Thanks!

Christucky;....

If you look at the wire where it was arcing , you may see a pin hole or a crack where it was arcing from...
Look around for a junker CRT that has a GOOD HV wire & it's long enough to replace the arcing wire...
When you find one , do NOTHING & post here for further info...

That wire carries the HV (approx 30,000 (<< NOT A TYPO) volts) when the TV is on to get briteness on the screen...
The CRT can & often does hold most if not all that voltage even if the TV IS OFF & unplugged...
So when you continue , care MUST be taken so you don't kill or maim yourself with a hell of a shock...

At the other end of the HV wire is a "splitter" box....
There will be 4 heavy red wires going into it...
I need to know what the ends of those wires look like...
Can you take a CLEAR , close-up of that unit & post it ???
Try to take one that does not appear washed out like the one you posted a link to...
THANKS....Sly...

You will need a single edged razor blade & clear RTV Silicone compound that you can get at any local auto parts supply store..
Get the CLEAR ONLY...

BTW:....
What happened to the lens assembly & the coolant in the pix ???..

Hi Ron.m!
Splitter:

http://imageshack.us/...es/560/dsc4094h.jpg/
As you can see the FBT splitter is cracked, i have replaced this with a new one from encompass parts.
I will have a look for a new HV wire and let you know when i have it!
HV Wires:

Also not sure how to get the HV wire off of the lamp.
I was going to replace the lamp, so i attempted to take it out (not knowing that there was liquid (ethylene glycol right??). will have to get some and replace it.
Also, please could you have a look at this other post, i'm not understanding replies!

Christucky;.....

EXCELLENT pix...THANKS !!!!...

Could not see a crack in the pix of the splitter...
Not to worry , you've already replaced it...

Also not sure how to get the HV wire off of the lamp.

When you find a replacement , I'll tell you how it's done....
(It's easy , but , you need to be careful)...
That's what the single edged razor blade & the silicone compound is for...
Also , I see you will need a soldering iron & some solder for the splitter connector...

Replaceing the CRT is far more costly & involved with care & adjustments you may have problems with...
NO offense...
Ethelyne Glycol IS highly toxic...
It also is VERY CORROSIVE to electronic parts & circuitry...
IF you spilled ANY of it on the board(s) or the parts ON the CRT , you WILL have future problems...

Christucky;....

Did you find a replacement wire that has the connector on it as shown in your pix below ??;=>...
http://imageshack.us/...ges/26/dsc4091z.jpg/

Have you replaced it as shown in your pix below ???;=>....
http://imageshack.us/...ges/29/dsc4092r.jpg/
Have you sealed the cup with silicone ???

Please answer all the above.....THANKS....Sly...

Clean inside the lens & CRT faceplate surfaces where the original coolant contacted to get rid of the old coolant..
I suggest Windex or any NON-ABRASIVE window cleaner & a SOFT , CLEAN "T" Shirt or a CLEAN cotton diaper...
Do not rub hard as the lenses are made of clear plastic & WILL scratch , thus blurring the pix ....
Make sure there is NO residue left from the cleaner if you use a cleaner other than Windex...
Re-assemble the CRT lens assembly to the CRT & take some pix of all 4 sides & post links as you did for the other pix....
You will need 1 bottle of Projection TV CRT coolant...
Here in the USA is a dealer that has it , but , as far as I know , will not ship overseas...
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/20-4275
Do NOT use anything other than Projection CRT Coolant....
Under NO circumstances do you use automotive ethylene glycol...

When I see the pix , I will help with filling the CRT...

Christucky;....

What part of the world do you call home ???

I have never used black silicone....
I'd be leary as my non-chemist background thinks that the black silicone may be conductive...
You should know the answer to that one better than I would....

I have NO idea....
The ethylene glycol that I use is projection TV grade...
Unless you are a packer there , you should know the answer to that one also...
If you are not a chemist , ask someone at work what is the SAME EXACT type of ethylene glycol they have there for use in projection TVs...
I have NO idea as to what the difference between ethylene glycol & mono ethylene glycol (or other types you have there ) would be...

So my advice would be to get clear silicone & projection TV grade ethylene glycol to be safe...

Good Luck....Sly....
