Hitachi 43FDX01B Convergence Issue Can't Post

HELP! I am having convergence issues with my 43FDX01B (there is no Magic Focus thingy on this model, by the way). I know how to get into the "secret" convergence menu using the remote, and can line the reds and blues up perfectly. The picture looks awesome when I take the 10 minutes and manually line all the colors up and exit the menu. The problem is, nothing saves. As soon as I turn off the TV and turn it on at a later time, all the convergence is back to being out of whack! Does anyone know how to save this or what the problem is?

Does the "Customer" convergence work 100%?
If No, Replace convergence ICs and check convergence resistors for open or change in value (make sure nothing in parallel - like convergence yoke - when measuring).
If Yes, put on your turban &/or dust off your crystal ball and divine the "secret" save.

1st:..jts1957:....
spikertc is having a problem saving his/her data....My guess is that the convergence IC's are OK....& the adjustments ARE working OK also....If the IC's were bad , the adjustments would NOT work properly...Turning the set off with good convergence & then back on with bad convergence does not indicate bad IC's....Especially if he/she can reset the convergence to good again....read on.....

2nd:..spikertc:...
I found your convergence procedure & how to SAVE YOUR DATA at....==>
http://zeroization.com/...b-covergence-adjust/
I read every word , but where it tells you to adjust the green in ANY WAY, DO NOT DO THAT STEP... ONLY CONVERGE THE RED & BLUE !!....If you tamper with the green in ANY Way you will be in DEEP doo doo...

GOOD LUCK... PLEASE post back here with the results....I for one would like to know how you made out...

Ron,

The Zeroization page you listed is exactly where I got the directions for that "secret" convergence menu.
I go through and do the red and blue adjustments only, but when I am done and I hit the PIP MODE button twice, the screen does NOT go blank NOR do I ever see a series of even spaced green dots! That is the problem. I think there is something missing or wrong with these directions.

Far Far,
The "cutomer" convergence adjustments all work fine, until I turn off my set. Then they go back to being out of whack. Every time I turn on the set, the convergence is off until I go and manually adjust it.

WELLLL !!...Shooot!!....Crazy...

Some dumb questions...
Is the remote EXACTLY the RIGHT one for that set ???...
Is it the original ??...OR a replacement ??
Does the PIP work during normal viewing ???
When you hit the PIP mode button the first time are you allowing time (A few seconds)for the TV to respond ,then hitting it again ???

Please reply....

Ron,

Yep - Original remote that came with the set
Yep - PIP works perfectly, as well as all the other remote's functions
Yep - tried waiting a few secs. tried pushing it rapidly. tried everything.
I sit possible that there is another button I should be hitting?

Yeah , but , I haven't a clue as to which one!!...Crazy...
I think that the "Zeroization" page is accurate...But as you know , you can NOT believe EVERYTHING you see on the internet....Mad...& that INCLUDES some of the so-called "Geniuses" at this website....

Since I last posted here , I done an extensive search on the web....

NOWHERE did I find ANY other info....OR even a Hitachi Tech Assist website....

You might have to call Hitachi direct for their tech assist phone number....
That's probably going to be your best bet....There may be a fee to talk to a tech there....

I do not reccommend you call a TV repair shop at this point yet...
Reason is they're only out for the money , obviously , & may not be as qualified as Hitachi is to help you out...

I'm begining to suspect a data memory problem....
That's NOT something you'll be able to fix yourself....

Your BEST bet is to contact Hitachi....
Try there & post back here with the results....NO matter what...

SORRY , I couldn't be more upbeat about this or have another "cure"....

spikertc:...

Well,Well,Well....Lots to say here....

Yesterday I found a website that has a manual for a similar model to yours...Sly
It was for a 43FDX10B... It is a 13 part RAR file with all but one file at 1.99MB...
Each part takes me 7-10 min to download...Due to the lateness of the hour last nite , I quit downloading at 8 parts....Crazy
This morning I finished up with the last 5 parts...Sly
After ALL parts were completed, I tried to open them up with a program called 7-Zip which opens up RAR files...
The manual is corrupted & could not be archived/opened !!!..Pirate....
Back to the web I go & ta da , I find a free service manual for your set....Sly...
It too is a RAR file...It too was corrupted !!!...Pirate...
Back to the web again...
This time I found a link on another forum for a "free" download for your TV in pdf form...Yea...Laugh...This one is NOT corrupted...Wink...
Here's the link...==>

http://www.electronica-pt.com/...nc,showdown/id,6045/

Scroll down a bit & you'll see the download for your TV...
Download the file...
Go to page 19....Step 2.12.1 is optional....
In step 2.12.2 Do NOT adjust the green...
At the top right side of the page you'll notice in a box it says "Progressive Mode"
Do ALL steps in order...
Take special note of item # (5)...<== This info is missing on the Zeroization page....
I will suggest you do that several times during your adjustments...Won't hurt anything....
This COULD be the step causeing your data failing to be entered after you hit PIP twice...
When you have ALL the colors lined up to your satisfaction , EDIT:..Press the "info" button one LAST time ,then press PIP , wait a sec or two , then hit PIP again...
Exit convergence mode (Turn TV off ??? <==not sure about this)
Turn TV back on & see if that helped...
Hopefully that should solve your problem...(Fingers , toes & eyes crossed..Sly...)

Do NOT under ANY circumstances do the adjustments for :.."HD Mode" OR ANY OTHER adjustments in the manual...PERIOD!!!

nuff said for now....Try that & get back to us to let us know as soon as you have done the above...

GOOD LUCK....Ron.M.....Cool.....

Re: [Ron.M] Hitachi 43FDX01B Convergence Issue [In reply to] Can't Post

Ron,
I get all the way until I press the INFO button (Progressive Mode Step 5) and the next step is what is confusing me.
My factory remote does not have a button labeled "PIP MODE" - It has a button labeled "PIP" and one labeled "PIP CH". When I follow the steps to the letter, and then use the PIP button, it does not say anything about "ROM WRITE" - and when I push the PIP button again, it resets the grid back to where it was in the beginning (not aligned)and then I have to start all over again! Crazy!
Any suggestions? My remote is Hitachi CLU-618MP - is this the correct one?

"PIP CH" has to do with changeing PIP channels...Oftentimes there's 2...One has PIP + (or "up") & the other has PIP - (or "down")...

Quote

I'm thinking its NOT!!!

I found a website with a photo of the EXACT remote for your set...
Please go there & take a look & see if it is EXACTLY the same as what you have...Do NOT order it...Will advise you later...

Here's the link==>

http://www.remotes.com/...;uuid=12445040018140

Scroll down a bit to get to the pix...2 are the same...
Forget about the "replacement model"...<==...Could it be what you are useing???
Use the "Zoom in" button to get a better view...
Takes a few OR many seconds to load...
Match button for button to your remote...You'll notice that the 2 remotes (Center & left ones) DO have a "PIP Mode"....
The "replacement model" on the right side matches what you are telling me you have on YOUR remote & does NOT have a "PIP Mode"...
AND if you look closely at the bottom of the remotes shown ,
GUESS WHAT !!!

They're NOT "CLU-618MP"....They look like CLU-572XXX...
So I'll BET you got the WRONG remote or a subbed remote...Ta Da...
How's that for magic ???

Look & let me know what you find out...OK...

This morning I found a users manual for your TV....(Since I can NOT upload it here I'll PM you with it..)...
In it you'll see that the remote for your TV is CLU-572TSI....Same as the website...
Also in it on page 43 , there's a different way to save convergence date....
Whaa da "%#*&" is going on with Hitachi?? ...Mad....I found at least 2 different ways to save the data for the SAME TV !!!
Please try this part of the info on page 43:==>

Quote

NOTES:
1. Only a momentary press of the CONVERGENCE ADJUST button is necessary to start CONVERGENCE ADJUST mode.
2. The color being adjusted will blink (red or blue) to indicate color you are adjusting.
3. To save your adjustment data into memory, press the front panel CONVERGENCE ADJUST button. If you do NOT wish to save your adjustment data into memory, turn the TV OFF. When the TV is turned ON again, your old convergence data will be restored.

Read the info precedeing the above quote in the manual &/or follow the steps in sequence....

IF that does not work, please give serious consideration to getting the correct remote...
I'd suggest you get the "NEW Substitute 43FDX01B Hitachi Remote" for $59.95 +S&H...(EDIT: At the website I posted earlier ) Your call...
Methinks that the remote you are useing is about 95% compatable with your TV...
Methinks that the "info" button code on your remote does NOT match the code on the CLU-572TSI remote...(The CORRECT one for your TV)

Let us know what happened.....OK.....

I have this manual, as well as another one that is 87 pages. Unfortunately, the simple solution of pressing the Convergence Adjust button to save the data after aligning the convergence manually does not work. That was the very first thing I tried. It looks great after I adjust it, but the next day when I turn on the set, it is totally out of whack once again! Ding Dang Dag Nabbit! I didn't really want to spring for a new remote, just because I need one simple button to push! And there is no guarantee that this will even work and save the convergence data! Crapola.

"Crapola."...NOT just yet....
I have a VERY strong suspicion that that "NEW" remote WILL solve your problem..
Here's what you do...
Call this #..1-800-REMOTES (1-800-736-6837)(From website) & ask them (Get a NAME of whom you are talking to) if it doesn't work ,can you get a FULL refund...That's ALL you ask them...
Do NOT tell them "WHY" you want it...Could be a deal killer...Play dumb..

Here's why...This is posted on the website...

""All Remotes come with a ""One Year Money Back Guarantee ""

They should honor that warranty....
So if it does not work , send it back for a refund & all you are out is some time & return postage....Kapish???
Your call...
BTW:...I've done bussiness with that company & reccommend them....
But , I still want you to make the call for your own satisfaction....

STILL Crapola ???...

The STK Convergence Modules need replaced. On my Phillips the modules where on a circuit board attached to the right side of the cabinet (from the back).

I got the modules at Bluestar-online.com for $5.99 each. http://www.bluestar-online.com/...110_p/stk392-110.htm
