Im in desperate need of help Can't Post

Hello friends. I recently bought a 52" RCA projection HDTV from a guy that was moving. In fact I bought this TV less than a week ago and until today it has worked flawlessly. Now when I power it on, it will turn on and work great for approximately 60 seconds, then the picture will go black for a second, then return. Then a few seconds after the picture returns the TV powers off all together. I have no working knowledge of televisions or the process of diagnosis, however, I am a PC repair technician and deal with PCBs daily. I have 6 soldering irons and a hot air rework station as well. I dont have an oscilloscope but I do have nearly anything else that I would need. Please help me to diagnose this and get the right replacement parts if I need them. The help would be so very much appreciated.

It is an RCA Model: R52WH74

What's that prove. I've got one desolder/soldering station, numerous pencil-type solder irons of many wattages, and a solder gun, but I still can only use one at a time.

I stole the following posts from another website;==>

1st post:...

First i would like to thank you for you're fast reply.
The set started acting up at first you could power it on every thing would be fine then it
would shut its self off aprox 10 - 15 min later. now if you press the power button it will
start to power on but shut off after aprox 5 seconds. I have been looking online for
replacemnet boards and from what the tech said is everybody is having problems getting
parts from rca and they no longer make it.

2nd post:...

May 1, 2009 3:39 PM

That chassis is famous for needing CP150 and CP114 replaced along with possibly the flyback.
The good thing is that You can get the parts at the following link with free instructions. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
First though I would just recomend reflowing the solder on the flyback. If you send me
a email to (deleted for privacy reasons) I will send you the instructions on how to remove the
deflection board and show you where the flyback is, as it may correct the issue just
by resoldering the flyback connections.

For some reason,I have serious doubts that the flyback is causing your problem...So , I do NOT reccommend you replace it at this time...

Also , check the connections on the Horiz Driver transformer....That
is a smaller transformer that will be near the flyback & have 4 or 5 pins...Re-solder all those pins...& those on the flyback....

Let us know how it goes....OK....

Re: [Ron.M] Im in desperate need of help [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks again, as far as the flyback goes, I have been reading quite a bit on TV repair and from what I understand is that if you hear the high pitch buzz go away when the TV goes off then it is the flyback cutting off but mine keeps the high pitch ring. I just reflowed all the flyback soldering points anyways and it did not help.

D-Rock3;...

OK....Get the caps & do the driver transformer as I suggested...
I STILL have doubts about the flyback being bad...

I do not have the service manual for your set & have been trying to find a "free" download...No luck yet...
Have a look on the board for a CTC #...or PTV # OR what ever IS on it....
Should be a white label on a metal fin near the flyback...
Post it if you find it...May help me get tech info....THANKS....

EDIT..PS: Can you upload photos????

Here are some pics for you. I had to order cp114 and cp120 as they are 220uF 35v caps and all my local electronic stores dont carry them.

lol heck no, From what I gather this is an ITC222 deflection board. I wouldnt mind paying a few bucks to buy caps a schematics. Im simply trying to avoid having to take it in for a 400 dollr repair ya know.

I have found the deflection board part number from a bit of research to be an RCA p/n: 271865. If I could find a replacement for this at a reasonable price I would just go ahead and do that.

" cp114 and cp120 " should be " CP114 and CP150"

GREAT PIX, THANKS!!!!....

CP150=2200mfd @16 volts
CP114=220mfd @ 35 volts....

BOTH are in the power supply....

BTW: I found a schematic for ITC222 , so we're good to go....

NOT reccommended!!!...
Reasons are;...
1st:..The board WILL be expensive as it is complex..
2nd:...More importantly, when you change out this board , you WILL have to go into the "Factory Menu" to match the new board to the rest of your set...
This IS an area of expertise I do not think you have...
You can totally screw up a perfect TV if you mess with certain "Factory Menu" adjustments, sometimes beyond repair!!!
Lets just stick with the caps & what may follow...OK....

Stay away from BL111...Period!!!...It's NOT the problem & you're wasting time & could cause more trouble....

Lol I mistook CP150 for CP120 and on my board CP120 is the EXACT same capacitor as CP114 which is a black, electrolytic, radial capacitor rated for 220uF 35v.

Re: [Ron.M] Im in desperate need of help [In reply to] Can't Post

From further research and various calls to PC repair shops someone along the way said it was an ITC222A and not an ITC222 chassis. That might be why the schematic you have and what I have in front of me are different.

Yeah,if you're ambitious enough...
Lets "SAFELY" Check power supply voltages...
Check ALL secondary voltages off LPO20 Standby transformer...
Do these with the TV OFF...

Then check ALL secondary voltages off LPO50, the run transformer...
Do these with the set ON...
I can NOT stress enough that you use EXTREME CARE when you do this...
There ARE dangerous shock hazards to avoid...
If you are even the slightest bit uncomfortable with this,do NOT do
ANY of this...NO harm , NO foul....

Under NO circumstances go near OR check the voltages on pins 10 & 1 of
LPO50 OR ANY of the components connected to those pins...
Under NO circumstances go near OR check the voltages on pins 1,2,3,4 of
LPO20 OR ANY of the components connected to those pins...
TOO much risk involved...

Check the in & out volts on IP250...Should be 7.2 vdc in & 5 vdc out...
Write down ALL the diode numbers & the readings you get & post them...
Make SURE you have everything connected properly & that the board is in
a SAFE position for you to take the readings...

Once again,I can NOT stress enough to use CARE & COMMON sense
while doing this...

GOOD LUCK....
