Mitsubishi WD-62527 62-Inch LCD Projection HDTV Can't Post

I just bought the below TV from someone, used:

http://www.amazon.com/Mitsubishi-WD-62527-62-Inch-Projection-HDTV/dp/B000A8EPH6

My question, is that I have it hooked up to my DirecTV HD DVR, with the standard cables that were previously hooked up to my older SD TV, but can only get 480p out of it. It looks like I need to get a HDMI cable....What is the best picture I can get and will the picture be greatly improved from what I have now with 480p? I'm not too terribly impressed with the picture at the moment on this one. Also, kind of a rookie with this since I've mainly had SD TVs in the past.

Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Ok, I created a different thread for a different issue I have with this TV, but was told I should continue to post on this thread.

So here is my problem:

The previous owner just recently had the back open to clean it (the mirror maybe?), and to replace the lamp. When he put it back together, there was a blue/purple spot about 6 inches in diameter that showed up. It's not a complete dark spot, but makes things in that area turn to a blue/purple tint. Definately noticeable. After noticing this, he went back in and blew some air in it thinking that it was dust. He put the back back on, and it moved a little bit to a different spot, but didn't disappear.

I bought the TV thinking that maybe I could fix it, but I'm not sure how. Any ideas on what this could be and how I could fix it?

Thanks in advance.

According to my knowledge if you are facing issues with your set top box then you just need the HDMI cable input in your LCD and still if its not working then you just need to subscribe all the HD channels on you set top box.

Ya, sorry kelyclrk, I did get the HDMI issue fixed. Just looking at how to fix that blue spot on my screen. Somewhat annoying right now.

Thanks!
