Philips 51PP9303H/17 problem! Can't Post

I have a problem with my Philips 51PP9303H/17, the red color is distorted or not working properly, i`ve been told that it`s a convergence problem, but i want to confirm this information.

I`ll add 2 images so you can see the problem.

Thanks a lot !

Prehistor;....

You're going to need every bit of your experience to do this...
The 1st thing I'd suggest is to resolder ALL the pins (CAREFULLY) on BOTH convergence ICs...
Questions:...
1)..
Did you get STK-392-120's & NOT any higher value ???
NO STK-392-150s for example ???
2)..
Did you get generic ICs OR REAL SANYO replacement ICs ???

Quote
i have already bought the Ic`s and resistors

Was that a "Kit" from http://www.tvrepairkits.com ???

You have TWO BIG jobs ahead of you that's going to REQUIRE LOTS of PATIENCE & followuing step by step procedure EXACTLY in the order that's given to do.....
IF you got the coolant from the same place as the convergence ICs , please post a link to the instruction manual they gave you with the coolant...
I have some tips on an easier way to change the coolant...

Re: [Ron.M] Philips 51PP9303H/17 problem! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you for your time Ron !

I got the STK 392-120, not higher (the exact ic`s that i have installed right now), and they are the originals from sanyo, and it isn`t the kit, i bought the stuff from different places.

btw the resistors (6R8J 1watt) gives a value of 8.2 ohms when disconnected from the board, and 5 ohms when connected.

As far as i could see, the coolant in the blue CRT is almost orange and very cloudy, i guess that`s one of the problems.

Prehistor;...

OK...
Let's start here:=>...

The 1st thing I'd suggest is to resolder ALL the pins (CAREFULLY) on BOTH convergence ICs...
Needless to say...
Check the results carefully by watching for smoke &/or shutdowns...
Please post results...
Thanks...Sly...

I presume you have some soldering-desoldering experience...
Yes ???

We/you should/will do this in stages...

I will be offline in about 1 hour from now...
I have a Doctor's Appt tomorrow AM , so I should be back online about 11~12 (Noon) AM PST...

We'll take a closer look at those resistors next...
The numbers would be appreciated...
They are 4 digits & will start with a "2" or "3"...

The Blue CRT coolant is by far the worst one for contamination !!!
The green coolant is 2nd worst !!!
The red coolant , amazingly HARDLY EVER bad ...

Prehistor;....

You really didn't have to remove the ICs to resolder them !!!
But the final solder job looks good...
There was some heat sink compound (Usually a thick heavy white compound) on the rear side of the ICs...
IF you removed it or it was dried out , you'll HAVE to replace it...

See ya Mon AM !!!...

oops !.. hehe i did not know that, i thought i had to remove it and then resolder... nevertheless it ended up pretty well, and the heat sink compount was not dried out, and i replace it anyway.

i`ll let you know when i reconnect everything back together.

Prehistor;.....

I'd suggest you change BOTH convergence ICs...
It looks like its time..
Do NOT hook up &/or turn the TV on till we get the following cleared up...

Old business to catch up on;=>...

WILL need the other numbers...
Meaning THESE!!!;=>...

That 6R8 resistor is reading too high off board & needs to be replaced...
ANY other resistors that are NOT reading at or near their proper value left in the set can & WILL most likely cause damage to the new ICs...
NOT worth the risk....

yes, they are quite brown and even have a part cooked, but I have just tested them and they give 100ohms :D.

I will buy 2 of those and change them like the others.
i`ll keep you posted.
thanks

what do you think?

Prehistor;.....

I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill here...
No need to go bonkers & change ALL of them....
Just take your trusty little meter & change the bad ones only...
Unsolder one leg of each of the resistors ,((6) 100 ohms 3W and (12) 6.8 ohms 1W ) , read ohms & if it reads + or - 10% of what it should be , LEAVE it in !!!!
You could be asking for a probem by doing uneccessary work here...

BTW:...
I do NOT like it when I ask for info & do NOT get it...
This is the 3rd & FINAL time I'll ask for this info;...

you`re right, i will leave the ones working fine then.
and about the nombre, i`m sorry but the green ones donŽt have numbers on them (in the board it says, 3163, 3166, 3164, 3161, 3165, 3162.

and the small ones have these digits (6r8j, 4B, 1w) and in the board they go from 3149 to 3160)

i hope i am giving you the right number, that`s all there is.

I would NOT recommend that...
You'll see why soon...
Do the convergence ICs first & post results when you are done with that...

The coolant change is VERY involved & will take you 1~3 days to do PROPERLY due to your lack of experience & the absolute requirement to follow step-by-step instructions...
Go here & ONLY read the generic procedure for a different TV to get an idea of what this job involves....
It is for a Magnavox/Philips TV that may be identical to yours...
There are 5 pages to read..

http://www.riddledtv.com/...RTCoolant/index.html
I have a procedure that more closely resembles your TV that I have edited to make this a tad easier...

WHERE did you get the coolant from ???}

ok, iŽll wait then Wink
thanks for the link, it looks really helpful!
I got the coolant from a local laboratory, iŽve read that the coolant is called "Ethylene Glycol" so i asked if they had it and they say yes :D... so i bought it, it does not have any instructions obviously, but the compound should be the same.
I hope it is ok!
