RCA P52929BL - Something smoked! Can't Post

My daughter said her TV "went out" and there was a strong smell of electrical burn in the room.
I pulled the panel off and saw something that could be burned... <see photos>... can't tell if it supposed to be that way or if it really overheated.
If it has indeed failed, I assume I must simply buy the whole board to repair this TV?

If it was the flyback that smoked, you should be able to obtain a after market replacement. What is that directly behind flyback, under "bar code" sticker on heat sink? Looks like something may have overheated there (or it could just be my eyes or the lighting).
Check horizontal output transistor for shorts if you have a DVM.

jts1957;....

That coating around the top of the flyback core looks like normally aged sealant to me....
That type of flyback usually did not produce a large amount of smoke when they went out....
Just a wisp & they were gone....
I'm more inclined to think that the HV splitter went out as they oftentimes started a burn path outside the block to chassis ground & gave off an odor in the proccess....

Do you have any experience in TV/electronics repairs ????...

If so , try to check horizontal output transistor for shorts if you have a DVM as jts1957 suggested...

We have since replaced this TV and it is in storage but I now want to revive it for use elsewhere.

I have some knowledge of electronics and electronics repair, but not on TVs...
Are the horizontal output transistors on the board in the photo? if so, where?
Is it better to simply replace this whole board?

skid2964;.....

I can only give you some limited help on this model TV....
What I can tell you FOR sure is that the Horizontal output transistor IS GOOD !!!!
You "may" have a bad "Screen/focus" block or a convergence problem or ???...
Hard to be sure because of the pix...
Can you post a better pix showing the sides of the screen with something on it (Like some video ??)...
I can not see what the sides of that image are due to the darkness of the pix...
Can you check & see what chassis that set has ???
Look on the white label on the back cover or the label in the pix you posted that has a "bar code" on it...
It appears to be "xxC195" ???
THANKS....

Replace resistor R19100 (2w 680 ohm) on convergence board.

If that resistor is burnt look for coolant leaks from the tubes anywhere on the circuit boards. Tubes will sometimes develop a leak & the coolant will leak on the the circuit boards causing that resister to fail.
