Toshiba 43H70 is too dark

So this TV has been great and always worked well. Now all of a sudden, it's just gone a little too dark. Picture is still there and clear, but no matter how high you crank up the brightness, it's darker than it should be. Still useable, but annoying, especially when watching movies or shows with lots of shadows. Any ideas what the fix would be? I just don't want to spend hundreds of dollars having a repairman fix an older TV, when I could buy a new one for $1,000 or so. Thanks!

You can try cleaning your mirror and the top of your lenses. That will help. You can also turn up the screen controls in front of the tubes. But face it. Your set is almost 11 years old. Very good life span for a rear progection crt tv. Good luck to you.
