Some of those old ones had problems with the audio processing. What chasis # is it. There should be CTC or PTK prefix to it.
Anyway, the short-term simple solution may be to unplug the set for about 1 minute so it does an AC reboot.. the situation that I recall was actually due to a problem in the way the circuitry handled the stereo and cc data in vertical interval.

Check that you arein stereo mode, not SAP with audio menu.
If you are using a cable box, I might suspect that as well.
