Broken Samsung UN40B6000 worth repairing?

My parents have a 40 inch Samsung TV (model #UN40B6000 ) which was purchased in March of 2009 for over 2K. Yesterday while they were watching a show the screen went dark but the audio was still on. I went over today and unplugged it and the plugged it back in and now there is no audio and the light on the base just keeps blinking. There is a backlight that comes on the screen because I can see a purplish glow but no picture.
Is it worth trying to get this TV repaired? And from my description of the problem does anyone have any ideas what the problem is? It was a pretty high end TV at it's time and to get just 6 years out of it would be a shame.
