Magnavox 52" LCD Dead Display, TCON? Mainboard? Can't Post

I have a 52" Magnavox LCD that died to black screen in a dazzling display of colors and lines. I tried replacing the TCON board and that got me a something on the display with some partially visible sections of screen and green lines and boxes. So my question is: if it isn't (just) the TCON board then what is the next likely issue? Mainboard? Panel itself? Loose ribbon cables? Or possibly the TCON replacement is also bad? Thanks.

Are you a bot? TV model number is 52MF437S/37B I think same as 52PFL7422D/37

Looking for any tips on how to isolate the problem. Thanks.

Non sequitur ... Insufficient data ... illogical

IMPORTANT: Horizontal lines on the screen are virtually NEVER caused by a bad T-con board. Horizontal lines indicate a defective LCD panel (screen).

Error Code(s)?, Blinking LED code(s)?, Photograph(s) of problem?

Here is latest image:

When it failed originally it was half of the screen first and I seem to remember vertical colored lines then the other half then all black. This image is with a replacment T-con board.

Yes OSD & menus are affected. Does the fact that a different T-Con board gave me that image rather than a black screen tell us anything? The panel is damaged and caused the original T-con board to fail?

Or original new-to-you 'replacement' also bad.

Yes that is definitely possible. Any way to determine that without trying another one? Is the image shown consistent with a bad T-con board?

I see so given that there are horizontal lines and vertical lines and partially visible sections and solid block sections I am not sure what to think. Is it possible that it is just the T-con board if there are those horizontal lines/bands? Is it possible for the panel to fail so catastrophically all at once?

You should peruse threads other than your own. While some may differ on certain points, tcons & LCD panels (in all brands) all do the same jobs.

Re: [jts1957] Magnavox 52" LCD Dead Display, TCON? Mainboard? [In reply to] Can't Post

There were never ONLY horizontal lines on the display. The failure from what I recall most resembled the image below before the screen went black (only a few seconds from start to finish). I will definitely keep reading, but can you tell me is it possible for only a bad T-Con board to produce the image shown in the photo I posted above? Because with the replacement T-con it has both horizontal and vertical blank lines and the whole screen is messed up. So could all of that be caused solely by the T-Con or is it likely to involve a panel failure? Thanks for your time.

Current photo w/ replacement (possibly bad) T-Con: http://i.imgur.com/JBPlJwL.jpg

Something representative of what it looked like when it failed which was from good picture to no picture in a few seconds, rainbow lines covered whole screen momentarily, not my photo: http://i.imgur.com/15WhY.jpg

Can the original tcon board be reinstalled and a photo/video taken?

With original T-con screen is 100% black no picture.

So either:
1. Original T-con bad, Replacement T-con bad, Panel ok
2. Original T-con bad, Replacement T-con good, Panel bad
3. All 3 bad
4. One of the above plus mainboard bad

Any favorites?

Part number of tcon? Both match in all regards (prefix/suffix/version, etc.)?

So I'm thinking of trying another T-con. Any advice whether:

1. Yes, it's possible for just a bad T-con to produce that blocky green image. The panel could be fine. Also unicorns could be real.

2. No, the only way for that blocky green image to exist is if there is a problem with the panel.

F1 on both tcons reads zero ohms? (I thought I had already posted this, but maybe the unicorns needed lunch)

Well I was able to confirm the replacement T-Con is working by sending it to someone who tested it in a working TV. So now is the remaining problem most likely in the mainboard or the panel? If we know that working T-con produces this image: http://i.imgur.com/JBPlJwL.jpg

Well I guess my options at this point are to try a new mainboard or harvest parts and recycle it. Any advice?
