Screen Went Black on 2 TV's Same HDMI and DirecTV Box

I have two 32 Inch TV. One is a TCL Model 32S327 Roku TV and the other is a Samsung Model UN32J525DAF. Both are 32" televisions.
My daughter was watching the TCL TV on evening when the screen went black. I attempted to reset the TV using various methods I found online. Nothing worked.
I then, stupidly, assumed the TV had just gone bad. So, I let her use our Samsung TV. I connected it to the DirecTV box using the same HDMI cable. A short time later, the exact same thing happened. The TV went blank. So I knew at that point it wasn't just a bad TV. It is either the HDMI cable or the Cable box.
I tried resetting both TV and nothing works. The Samsung TV has a very faint picture that flickers on and off but the TCL TV has no picture at all. Sound is heard on both.
I'm certainly not using the same HDMI cable and will sent the DirecTV box in to have them check it.
Please let me know if there are any simple fixes. I'm technically inclined as I do computer repair.
