Sony Bravia KDL-46W5100 Can't Post

Hello, I have a Sony Bravia KDL series 46in TV. It powers on, the backlight shows activity, then powers itself back off then back on. What could the issue be? If you tell me a board please be specific in which board would cause this and why. Thank you <br>

Why do people continue to believe there is something wrong with providing a full model number?

We only use it to research your financial and personal history ... jk Wink

Comcast Technicolor Modem?

http://esupport.sony.com/...fo.pl?info_id=264#tv
"Televisions: The model number is usually found on the back of the television, but sometimes on the front lower portion of the frame. If the television is very large, or mounted on a wall, you may want to check the cover of the manual for the model number, if not, get some help and don't try to move it alone. In this case, you can also probably check your purchase receipt for the model number. (e.g., KDL-65HX729)."

went and looked again and took the back off. I finally saw the other sticker that somehow I had missed this entire time. The correct model is KDL-46W5100

What do YOU mean by backlight shows activity?
When YOU mention power on then off/on are you saying the whole TV or the backlight?
How is audio?

I have the back of it off so I can see the lights through the little holes. I see the front of the screen turn on as you can see activity. Overall the front goes from a black to being powered on and sort of a lighter black or a dark blue. Cant hear audio

If "lights through the little holes" are on all the time, it won't be a inverter problem. Obtaining SM.

Any Power/Standby LED blinking?

Video Failure
1) No Video or distorted video? I presume NONE.
2) Backlights turning on? I'll presume staying on Yes.
3) OSD graphics present? I'll presume No.
4) Heartbeat LED on BU board flashing? This I can't see.

If I have any of first 3 wrong - tell me.
You will need to answer #4.

3.what is an OSD graphics? Volume bar, Input display or Menu screen, etc.
4. where would I look to see a blue heartbeat light? On the board with the "BU" on it.

I can't make an informed diagnosis without proper troubleshooting.

I ask a question - you provide an answer. If you don't understand, just say so.
Asking for a 2nd time: Any Power/Standby LED blinking?

Re: [jts1957] Sony Bravia KDL question [In reply to] Can't Post

yes, the Sony emblem lights up on the front and the green power light is on solid. Stays like that for about 15 seconds or so then powers off and starts again after about 5-10 seconds.

These 4 questions are from a 'No Video' flowchart in a manual at the site I gave you. Do you agree to these answers for this chart and can YOU provide the answer to question 4?

I looked at the BU board but didnt see any flashing lights on it when the plug was in and I could hear the click for power on. The rest of the questions seem correct.

Re: [CraigH] Sony Bravia KDL question [In reply to] Can't Post

No Video
If a total loss of video occurs (including OSD graphics) the most likely course of action is to bring a replacement BU board to the service location since the unit is serviced at board-level only. It is unlikely that a loss of voltage from the power supply is the cause since these voltages are monitored and the unit will likely experience a protection shutdown event rather than a no video condition. Although a failure of the backlights to turn on would certainly cause a no video condition, this too would cause the unit to shut down and indicate a failure via the self diagnostics feature. If the replacement BU board does not resolve the issue, the LCD panel is the only other likely culprit.
The presence of OSD graphics with a no video condition certainly eliminates the LCD panel as the cause and the BU board will almost certainly fix the problem.

The BU board contains a flashing heartbeat LED visible in the upper right corner. Always observe this green LED to make sure it is flashing. If it is steadily lit, IC7000 has failed and is the certain cause of the no-picture condition. In virtually all cases of a failure of IC7000 the LED will not flash. Some replacement BU boards may not have this LED installed. Rarely does a failure on this board cause an existing LED to not light at all.
