Sony KDL-46V3000 will not power up Can't Post

I own a Sony KDL-46V3000, a couple of weeks ago the display failed to power up, Green power light on but no picture & sound though my PC chained to my AVR via the KDL-46V3000 would play audio.
I found out that if I flipped the power switch on my rack surge protector it would pop on & play fine after a few dozen flips, I tried to power it straight from the wall socket and it was the same. I now fail to get it to power at all. One thing I noticed when this started & the display was powered up was that though the picture was perfect, the menu displayed a couple of dotted green lines running vertically down the gui display. Would this be the T-Con card or something else? I wouldn't think so as I read that if the T-Con was bad you would get sound & I don't get sound at all.
Please Help

Re: [Blackbeen] Sony KDL-46V3000 will not power up [In reply to] Can't Post

When an error occurs, the STANDBY LED flashes a set number of times to indicate the possible cause of the problem. If there is more than one error,
the LED will identify the first of the problem areas. If the errors occur simultaneously, the one that corresponds to the fewest flashes is identified first.

(Results for all of the following diagnostic items are displayed on screen. No error has occurred if the screen displays a “00”)
1. TV must be in standby mode. (Power off).
2. Press the following 4 buttons on the Remote Commander within a second of each other:
DISPLAY / (Channel) 5 / Volume '-' / TV POWER .
The Self Check list displays.

IF it is currently dead - I'd disconnect it from power strips, outputs to audio systems, etc. Leave set top box or item that was selected as Input when it failed hooked up and active. If INTERNAL 'speakers' are 'off,' as opposed to volume minimum, and you can't access Menu, that might be a problem.

I just get the green power light when I do this, nothing displays, I can't access the menu, I use the internal speakers for TV audio normally, in this situation there is no TV audio.

So If I replaced the FB3 board it would bring up the menu & so on but not the TV display.

Yeah, as I implied I think the panel is fine as when it was up it was flawless other than that menu green line that sounds like it would be related to the FB3. Also I ran across this other thread you responded to: http://www.tv-forums.com/...re_of_problem_P65983 the guy mentioned a flashing light, I did see this myself I'm pretty sure coming from the vicinity of the FB3 on the days I could eventually get the TV to display but it is now it is gone & I can't might that be related?

You might want to 'fix' your link for others.
Go to thread in question ... go to browser address bar ... highlight & copy ... come back here edit and paste in place of your last.

All flowcharts and circuit descriptions should take ONLY the CURRENT symptom into consideration.

I presume you mean link fixed - not TV?

Thought I covered that earlier: Leave set top box or item that was selected as Input when it failed hooked up and active.

Yes: Link No: TV and yes but I didn't think it would hurt to try it both ways when I didn't get a result.

FB3 Light solid red & oddly the circuit doesn't break from PC to AVR when I turn off the TV like it usually would & the red light stays on solid.

Power (button and LED) behave normally, There at no point is any audio, back light not attempting to come on (nor is there any image discernible while holding a flashlight near front of screen?), 'heartbeat' LED erratic. All these lead me to think that Main board FB3 is culprit. It may even be a possible cause for lines you mentioned. You may want to confirm that VCCs at FB3 (at least) are good, couldn't hurt (so he says).

Re: [jts1957] Sony KDL-46V3000 will not power up [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, this is the same conclusion I came to, when I first started having this problem & I was able to eventually get it up & running I would hope to see backlight as it was a sure sign I would get a picture, this of course is no longer the case.
I tend to think that something on the FB3 was slowly burning out as the time it took to get it up in the last couple successful attempts was considerably longer.
I don't have a voltage meter but I checked the leads & they seemed clean, well connected.
I've ordered a FB3 off eBay, hopefully I will get it in before my vacation at the end of the week so I can see if it works out.
Thanks for all the assistance! Smile

Re: [jts1957] Sony KDL-46V3000 will not power up [In reply to] Can't Post

I got the card in & installed it this morning. It powered up normal & seemed ok but when I went to channel scan (set to antenna, I don't use cable) it detected 1 analog (normal) & 0 digital (40-50 is normal), I checked all antenna connections, ribbon cable connection to antenna tuner card & even tried the cord antenna that came with the set to verify some unknown issue with my antenna set up. I scanned several times, even attempted a default settings reset & nothing.
Do you think I got a bum card?

I have video now (1 analog channel) just no digital channel scanning (it scans but retrieves no channels).

I was referring to the box: it's doing this on 'All Inputs' Y/N as in Tuner is ONLY input that does NOT work properly.
OSD IS working I'll presume.

There isn't a problem with inputs otherwise, just digital channel scanning. Analog channel, OSD, PC & set-top box connected display fine.
