Spam Reduction & Forum Restructure	Can't Post

Hi guys,
I don't post much, but I am on here every day removing spam and keeping an eye on things...
Given the massive amount of spam we are recieving I have stopped the major free email services from registering new accounts. This will have a huge impact on the amount of spam we recieve because they all use 'disposable' email accounts from the free providers.
This will also have an inpact on normal users (not those already registered) - but most will have access to a ISP email address or other 'real' account.
I am also considering a major re-organisation and would be interested to hear your thoughts on what forums should be removed, merged, kept or created...

TV REPAIR and TV SHOWS should get separate tabs, instead of being combined as "TV FORUMS." Wink

CRT, LCD/LED, Plasma, Projection TV and DVD/OTHER/VCR SUB FORUMS

I've been researching some methods of configuring registration. Possibly some changes to suggest, but I'd rather not post in the open forum. From what I can tell much of the spam is coming from 1 of 2 common bots.

Xrumer seems to have many of the patterns we are seeing here. If I come up with anything concrete, I'll PM you. No sense telling "them" how things might be configured.

Hi Guys - Sorry forgot to mention also that the Forum now runs on GMT (it was actually running on GMT + 20 Hours by accident for a long while now - which you will all realise is NOT a valid timezone, but may have lined up with one)

If you want to display the time/dates in your local timezone - then please go to the [Display Settings] under [Edit Profile] Menu option and enter your required Time Offset

Also you will be glad to know - we have NO new spammers sign up in the last 3 days - the only spammers we have had were from accounts that were already on registered.

This means that every time a 'old' spammer sticks thier head up - it gets cut off!

Absolutely does...
Spammers have been GREATLY diminished (THANK you VERRRY much !!!) , but also real posters with legit problems...
Seems to me that a post time delay would have foiled the speed bots & allowed the legits to post without getting a new acceptable email address.... Unimpressed

I have them blocked before it hits the web. The world won't see it, but it still takes my time to scrub posts and users.
