TOSHIBA 46G310U - Heats up no picture Can't Post

Hi All,

I am working on a TOSHIBA 46G310U. After a few minutes it loses picture but sound still works.

I placed a window fan behind the unit and the problem stops. I notice a flickering on the screen before it dies.

What could possibly be going on...thanks

Bad caps.
Bad solder.
Bad wiring.
Bad CCFL bulb(s) in LCD Panel.

Wow! I was hoping there was a thermal protection of some sort. Where to start? I don't want to throw parts at it and see what sticks...lol

Don't forget to try 'the flashlight trick' before saying there is NO picture/video.

Don't throw ANYTHING at the TV, the LCD screen is quite easily damaged!

Taking the back off TV and examining with your eyes will make you aware of any obvious puffed or leaky cap.
Removing each board and examining them for obvious defective solder joints will make them known to you.
Unplugging the various connectors while pulling boards and re-seating them upon reinstalling the boards will take care of angled or tarnished contacts.
Inverters have a detection circuit to shut down drive to ALL bulbs if any bulb has bad solder/broken/arcing or drawing excessive current.
The careful disassembly of the LCD panel to examine the CCFL bulb ends and their solder joints may at least give satisfaction before putting set remnants into dumpster.

And finally, not a single one of these costs you anything but a little time.

Too late I already threw something at it.. Thanks much this gives me some steps that I'll need to do again taking more care in checking each component slowly and carefully.. Smile
