ATR keeps flashing on some tapes Can't Post
Hi!
I have an old JVC vcr recorder/player and some of my old vhs tapes will not play, FF, or Rew..and what I noticed was that the ATR light keeps flashing when that happens. Can anyone tell me what to do about it? Some of my tapes will play fine while others do what I just mentioned. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn OFF the automatic tracking?Cool

Thank you for replying, however since this issue never happened before, I do not know how to turn this feature off. Also, this issue of the ATR flashing does not happen with every tape. It would be appreciated if you can tell me how to turn this off. Thanks

We're a little bit handicapped here, you didn't post a picture of your unit (or it's symptom), and my crystal ball is out being polished. Angelic

You DO (did) have the owner's manual. Or YOU know the model number, maybe you can find a copy online.

Even though my crystal ball is very clear I am a dinosaur with technology and have no way to post a picture. But I did find a manual online and I am sure the problem is not the vcr but certain tapes cannot be viewed. So, now I need to figure out why some tapes play and others won't. Thank you for your help....now I know what ATR means ....Cool

Very likely pertains to the "speed" of the tape.
A tape that was store bought with only one theatrical movie on the whole cassette vs. a cassette that someone has recorded all three "Back to the Future" movies onto. ("SP" vs. "EP," aka "SLP")
