Sony EV-C3 Video 8 VCR problem...

I have a Sony EV-C3 (NTSC) that requires service. Here's what has been done so far: All surface-mount capacitors on the video head amp module RP-69 have been replaced. The guideposts have been calibrated and the lock screws reapplied to lock the adjustments. An Elna LongLife 470 microfarad capacitor (C-219 on the RF BLOCK section of board VI-52) has been replaced. The symptoms are as follows: Half of the fields are not being read off the tape, as if one of the two channels is dead. When you PAUSE, only half of the fields are scanned and the picture comes out clear. There is no sound. Sometimes, the VCR is unable to attain an accurate lock on tape speed; it infrequently fluctuates between LP and SP. Although the machine cannot playback satisfactorily, it does record good video and sound; although this deck is unable to playback its own recordings, the same recordings, both SP and LP, will playback properly on my personal Sony Hi-8 camcorder. This seems to rule out wear of the video heads and bad guidepost adjustments. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. - Reinhart
