Sony SLV-SF90 Error Code When Rewinding

Hi
I've had a Sony SLV-SF990 for a couple of years now (UK model) and over the past few months an error code has been appearing on the front panel display. The VCR will not forward tapes properly and slows down after a few seconds, when rewinding tapes it often does not reach the beginning of the tape and stops displaying the error code 4 12 18. There is also another error code but never had chance to write it down as it is very infrequent and hard to recreate.
If anyone could help decipher this I would really appreciate it
