No I am not a TV Technician that is why I ask the question on here. But I am very good with electronics I work in the IT industry and thought it was maybe something I could help out a couple of old people sitting in a nursing home with. I know its not a good fix but we put some tape over the IR sensor and seems to be working for now.
I didn't know if maybe a universal remote maybe there were more then one code that would power on/off the TV's. But seems like I have it fixed for now thanks for your help.

wasuman,

do yourself a favor and stay away from this ron guy.he will give you a few bits of info, then he will assume you know nothing, then tell you that you are incapable of the task.

The reason for me posting this is that I have now made it my objective to humiliate this guy in every way possible. He has said to you, myself, and countless others here looking for information the same nonsense.

I have been following his posts and he does not get any results,he's full of hot air,and to add insult to injury has made some racial slur focused to me in a recent post

There are plenty of other guys on this site who are well informed and probably would have helped you if ron did not jumpin first

Thanks for the info. But I have ran into people like him on other forums I think that is the way some people feel smarter by putting people down. Its really bad because I believe these forums are are very useful tool for people to share information. Then you put a few people like this out there and it makes it hard to weed through all the BS.

It is,just avoid this guy Ron.

I find it's a little easier to search and read before posting anything.I have solved a few tv problems here, but made the mistake of posting my first one before doing any research.

I am not a TV tech either but work in the industrial Electronics industry.

If you know your Electronics, you can fix a TV if you need to.Don't let this guy discourage you into thinking it's so difficult.

I basically keep coming back cause I like a good fight and it's a lot of fun to poke at guy's like ron who are lacking the people skills required to be effective in helping out.

Re: [wausman] IR problems with two tv's [In reply to] Can't Post

Mr wausman;....

I'm truly SORRY that you feel the way you do about me....
In case you would like to know , I was RIGHT about "No I am not a TV Technician" , that is WHY I said "This is a proceedure (Changeing the TV format) that IF it can be done needs to be done by a qualified tech""....
IF that offended you , I'm SORRY....
Reason may have been that you might have to go into the factory menu & alter some data that YOU could mess up the TV PERMANENTLY...
I gave you advice to try & use BOTH TVs & NOT disable one of them....
NOTHING like that was even thought of....

Quote
we put some tape over the IR sensor
But seems like I have it fixed for now thanks for your help.

Who gives advice to STOP a functioning TV so one person has control over their TV & the other has NO control over their OWN TV ????
ESPECIALLY IN A NURSING HOME ?????
Is one person ambulatory enough to repeatedly get up out of their bed or chair to change channels , adjust the volume etc ???
It's a NURSING home , I don't think so...

It's IS your previledge to side with an admitted ignorant TV wannabe tech that tried to tell you that "One would think the IR just needs to be a different frequency (that's obvious)."" which is absolutely laughable & ERRONEOUS !!!!
I'm TRULY happy you found a "solution"(?) to your problem....
NO self respecting tech would have thought of nor given you OR anyone else that kind of "High Tech" advice...

I think that is the way some people feel smarter by putting people down.

WHERE did I put you down ????

Re: [Ron.M] IR problems with two tv's [In reply to] Can't Post

I did not disable anyones ability to use thier own remote control. But the tape did make the IR sensor less susceptible to unwanted IR signal which keeps her roomates remote from controlling her TV but does not hinder the functionality of her remote at all.

As I stated it is not a good fix and deffinatly not a technical one but it did work. I would have rather had a non technical working reponse that was free and only took a couple minutes to do. Then a response that I am to ignorant and need to have someone else come look at it. If I felt that way I would have just told them to call a TV Technician when I was ask.

I get into factory menu's and change setting to configure networks daily on networking equipment that is over $100,000. So I felt comfortable working on a $400 TV.

Ron,

You knock people constantly and tell EVERYBODY that they are not qualified. When in fact it's YOU who is not qualified.

The progression of television technology has left you in the dust. You know TV's from the 70's and 80's today's television platform is for the most part microprocessor based and you are still back in the CRT days

You don't see any mechanics skilled in model t repair anymore...you are the television equivalent of that...

and you are an a**hole...

Mr wausman;....

A LOT of people that come here are NOT technically inclined...
Some DO know a little about electronics or TV repairs...
Some a LOT....
And 1 or 2 jerks that claim they know everything there is to know about TVs , computers , etc....Example ,Gussie girl...
In your 1st post you gave us NO info on your tecnical expertise(?)...
I & NOBODY else here are psycics...
We are NOT allowed to read peoples minds....
Had you said something about your technical prowress , my 1st reply would have been a LOT different , I assure you...

That said , in your words;=>....

Quote
As I stated it is not a good fix and deffinatly not a technical one but it did work.

And you expected a "tape the IR" answer from us ????

Quote
Then a response that I am to ignorant and need to have someone else come look at it.

NOWHERE , I repeat , NOWHERE in my replies did I say that or infer that...
What I said WAS:=>...

Quote
This is a proceedure (Changeing the TV format) that IF it can be done needs to be done by a qualified tech....

IF you ARE in fact a QUALIFIED tech , WHY would you get upset & attack me for that PARTIAL advice ????
You should take NO offense & post your abilities in your next post...

Then your buddy Gussie girl chimes in with ;=>...

Quote
ha ha ha.. another, you are not qualified.

And the 2 of you are off to the races...
I NEVER said OR implied that....
NOT A FAIR thing to say or do....

You are going to find out the hard way the Gussie is an EXPERT at taking a word , a phrase , twisting the meaning around to his advantage & then throwing back at you with an entirely different context...
He has NO experience fixing TVs other than his own which I helped him fix...
With him , it's "Buyer BEWARE" !!!
Show me ONE , I repeat , JUST ONE thread where Gussie helped fix ANYTHING here & I'll send you a Money Order for $1,000 CASH...
You can't because it does NOT exist !!!!...PERIOD !!!!

I'm in NO way asking you to choose sides here...
Just to be open minded & NOT be so quick to condem someone without first thinking about it...

In spite of what you said....
Have a GREAT day & weekend.....

Re: [Ron.M] IR problems with two tv's [In reply to] Can't Post

Well first off I guess it is my fault because I assumed this was like any other forum. On no other forum have I ever had to post my credintials in a thread to get response. Before Gussie ever jumped in I had seen your response and choose to be polite and not say anything about your condescending attitude. Then I was having a conversation with him about your response I never attacked you in anyway.
As far as the tape over the IR sensor. I would have been more pleased with a better fix to the problem sure. But if that was the only fix then sure why not. If you was a old person in a nursing home would you want someone to say well I cant fix your TV because there is no technical way to fix it. I could put tape on the IR sensor and fix your problems but I am above that. So you will just have to deal with it.
I really am to busy to argue with anyone over this. I was just trying to do something nice for a couple of elderly people.

wausman;.....

I'm going to waste space here to make a point....
SORRY...But , I've had enough of this "condescending" accusation crap....

1st post I made in reply;=>.....

Quote
Short answer , no....

This is a VERY rare occasion & problem !!!!
The reason is that ALL TVs , etc , that are designed to recieve commands process them in the microprocessor...
Some companys have a micro that can be reset from commercial to consumer use...
I would check & see if the sets there in the home are resetable...
See if one OR both are specially made for commercial use...
Then one of them may be reset so the problem goes away...
The only thing is that you would have to either get a different remote OR re-program one of the ones you already have....
I'm not familiar with Vizio or Hisense , but , it looks like they may be made by the same company....I'm not sure about that...

Any words there "condescending" ???
I don't see ANY...
I see a helpful cordial , & informative answer...
Not a word indicating a "superior" type attitude....
IF you see one , PLEASE point it out to me so I can make adjustments in my future wording habits...Thanks....

Post #2;=>...

Quote
wausman;....
This is a proceedure (Changeing the TV format) that IF it can be done needs to be done by a qualified tech....
Start by getting the model numbers & contacting them for further info about converting from commercial to consumer use or vice versa....

GOOD LUCK...Sly...

This is probably the one you think is "condescending"...
I strongly disagree....
Again , nothing "condescending" here....
Just a simple statement that states a fact...
IF it pisses you off because you are NOT a qualified Tech , too bad...
NOT MY problem...
NOWHERE does ANYTHING in those 2 posts do I speak to you as a "Superior"....
I am enlightening you about what "may" need to be done...
IF I were a genious tech & gave you an answer WAY over your head , you would likely have run or bellyached about "Could you translate that so us layman can understand ???"""
Your NEXT post SHOULD have said something like;=>...

Quote
No I am not a TV Technician that is why I ask the question on here. But I am very good with electronics I work in the IT industry ...

OR , you could/should have put that in your 1ST POST !!!
And NONE of this alledged "condescending" crap would have happened....

Then Gussie girl jumped in & you apparently bit on it....
NUFF SAID ....

On other similiar forums that I've been to WILL ASK for your credentials up front before they give you a reply...
Some don't or won't...

Each forum , including this one , has different techs that respond in a different way...

IF ANY of the above sounds "condescending" , too bad...
NOT meant that way...
Just trying to give you a nice explanation...

I applaud you for your efforts helping 2 people in a nursing home...Sly..
But , PLEASE do not come down on ME for trying to help you do it...

Gussie girl... Re: Racist Comments.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Everyone;....

It's been 4 going on 5 days since Gussie girl's last reply....
Normally I'd say , Hooray , HOORAY !!!
But this time he/she has FAILED to answer MY questions in post #46 above...
Gussie girl , along with other problems he/she has , I feel he/she is a RACIST , & a BIGOT !!!
I think the reason he/she hasn't replied is because he/she can't !!!
You see , there's NO DEFENSE for RACISM or BIGOTRY !!!!!
He/she got caught with the proverbial pants down with a one & one half inch erection & NO BALLS...

I have replied to & countered nearly every accusation , misinforming , innuendo , inflammatory , degrading , aggravating charges & OUTRIGHT LIES he/she made....
Now it's time for a far more SERIOUS charge for him/her to answer to & the COWARD is nowhere to be found...
I & others have PROVED him/her wrong in this & the other thread & he/she refuses to admit that to 2 of us professional TV repair techs...
Not even an "oops"....
So along with egotistical , Superiority Complex ridden , narcissistical , A.D.D. , etc , we can add Racist & Bigot to his long list of faults..
Maybe even "Coward"...
Could it be that I'm right again & he does NOT have it in his character to admit that ???

Gussie girl , you're doing just a fine job pissing off just about everyone here...
I can't wait to see WHO will help you here the next time you need it ....
