lg 37lc2d	Can't Post

I got this tv from a cousin that said it was broken. I got home and it started right up. I opened it up for an explanation and I noticed one of the capacitors on the power supply was bulged up a little bit indicating that its going out. The TV works right now though, is it safe to keep using it or could it cause a lot more damage because I was thinking of using it till it got worse then fixing it. My second question is it clicks once when I turn it on and once when I turn it off, Is that normal for this model because none of my other tvs did it.

1) replace electrolytic capacitor IMMEDIATELY with one of SAME value, same (or higher) voltage rating and same (or higher) temperature rating observing polarity and using pencil-type iron (NOT plumber's torch);
2) Relay click(s) is normal. Wink

In the picture the capacitor is marked with black marker and I think its going bad but not sure cuz its just a tiny bump. what do you think?

So then voltage doesn't matter as long as its at least the same becuase I heard the voltage should be the same.

VOLTAGE & TEMPERATURE:
Same rating if easily available.
Higher rating if the higher rating is more easily available.

VOLTAGE:
I usually try to stay with no more than 200% higher, but as volts go higher so do the physical dimensions.

Value of one is much higher & apparently the temp rating of the other two 1000/16V's

All ratings 'should' be on the original capacitor (value/voltage/temp).

Digikey / ebay / Mouser are some alternate sources.

IF the first one is a 85C and second is 105C AND THE ORIGINAL is 105C - stick with same as original.

Generally the better name brands are better quality. But these days, you never know. The ones you found on fleabay would probably hold up as long as the original. Crazy

ok then I might just get those because the tv last shipped in 2007 so if I can get 6 years that's good, id just replace it again, thank you for the help

oh, what type of solder do I need, I know theres different mixtures and thicknesses and im not sure if it maters

This one you should be able to get at your local Rat Shack. They should also have desoldering braid. YouTube has many desoldering / soldering how to videos. Example: http://www.radioshack.com/...sp?productId=2062722

does anyone know what size screw goes in the stand, when i got it, it was wall mounted and they couldnt find the screws. and is it six screws or four

OM says 4 screws but doesn't elaborate.

Try various METRIC diameters & threads. Once you get that use the shortest length one that will work.

so i ended up getting the 3 dollor ones on ebay and theyre like half the size but the volts and everything are the same. I was wondering if it will still work or if they need to be the same size. I would think that would be better becuase of better vetalation between the components but idk. I was also wondering if i should replace all the others too that are the same values, since i got 20 of them or would it be better to leave them since theres no signs of physical damage on the others.

Actually I never said I wanted to start a business, you just assumed. Ive been getting a lot of broken tvs from people lately and rather than throw the boards away, why not fix them and I doubt every one is born with the knowlege to test and fix boards, they have to start somewhere. It's people like you that discourage people from wanting to learn and to just give up. If everyone thought like you no one would fix anything and no one would ever want to learn how to.

My "advice" was not meant to be discouraging but to point out the realities of what you want to get yourself into and notwithstanding the business aspects, the education and equipment expenses are still not irrelevant. Good luck on your ambition. Unsure
