Re: [Enisiojr] Polaroid FLM-3232 no power "picture inside" [In reply to] Can't Post

Your problem with this set is most likely the small IC's on the bottom side of the board at the top of the picture . This is a common problem with the power supply when the caps are good . The best way to check if your caps are good is with a ESR meter . Also check if you have any voltage coming off the CN2 or CN3 plugs. If no voltage is found then board replacement is going to be your best bet . When caps become leaky or bulging at the top of them most of the time you'll have some type of a voltage reading on the two connector plugs that will be low . The part # of the board is 846-240-H3CZZSH or you might have an additional number or letter as there were two different versions . Finding these boards can be difficult as most companys do not stock them . If you still have your owners manuel contact Polaroid for the nearest authorized dealer who stocks them . Also by law they have to make the part available for 2 years or offer some sort of service for your set . It will cost you if they offer the service if your tv is out of warranty , but if they don't offer service then the board must be made available for purchase ! Now if they don't offer the service and the part is not available , by law they must replace the TV . Places to check for used or refurb. boards are : Shopjimmy or Discount merchant or E-Bay . Good luck with your repairs , JSF

Which "by law" is that? (or should that be "buy law?")

IC is abbrev. for intergated circuit . If you look at the bottom side of the board you will see 4 little black ic's . They have 8 eight legs on them . Some of the times these are your problem with this board . They extremely hard to find or you have to buy $300.00 worth of them . That is why you'll have to replace the board . One or two of them may be shorted causing your secondary voltages not to be there on the pin connectors CN2 & CN3 . Hope this helps .

My guess is the first IC (ST-L6561) generates the bus voltage of 400V DC as a Power Factor Corrector. It is available on http://www.st.com/stonline/products/literature/ds/5109/l6561.pdf

I don't see a 400V DC on the 150uF 450V Capacitor. I see 0 Volts. as you suggested it may be the IC itself or any other component that has caused to cease the oscillations. Do u have access to the CCT diagrams?

I think if the first Voltage (400V) on the Capacitor is restored the rest may be OK.
OK lets try this first . Is your power supply primary voltages OK accross the 400V cap. ? And or are you getting any voltage on the cap . Remember your voltage meter ground testing point must be on the primary side not the secondary side . If your getting voltage odds are the secondary side has shorts and the transformer is not allowing it to produce the voltages on the secondary side .

Re: [board repair] Polaroid FLM-3232 no power "picture inside" [In reply to] Can't Post

I also have this same board but in a different model tv. The TV is a MAG model 3200 which was purchased at Staples. Yesterday the TV made a loud buzzing sound and the screen showed random lines everywhere. I pulled the plug hoping to reset it but now I all I get is a blue LED when plugged in which switches to red when I hit the power button. No picture or sound. I examined the power supply board and see discoloration around the 4 IC chips. The board is actually a dark brown color around this area. I am also seeing a blue tint on the top of the bridge rectifier. I would like to try replacing the IC chips to see if that fixes the problem. I believe the numbers to be 2561 LK602 by NEC. Can someone confirm the numbers?
Thanks

OK did you check to make sure you have no voltage on the CN connectors ? And if there is voltage on C6 capacitor ( 150m@450v ) . Then those IC's could be your problem. The main thing i will say is good luck finding them without buying them in bulk on bid sites . If you know the part number of the board try going to www.ued.net or www.encompass.net to see if either have the board in stock . Also the capacitors are not buldging on the top on C32 & C33 & C34 . If you find the IC's , let me know as long as i do not have to order $300.00 worth . Good luck on your repair

SAME PROBLEM SAME BOARD.... T.V. POLAROID 3232. NO SWELLED CAPACITORS. THERE IS LITTLE BROWNISH FLUID ON TOP OF ONE OF THE TRANSISTORS AND AROUND J3 (DOES THAT MEAN ANYTHING?) SO ANYWAY I HAVE THE BOARD IN MY HAND, AND JUST SO HAPPEND TO SEE THIS SITE. SO NOW I AM GOING TO PUT BACK IN ,TO SEE I GET ANY VOLT FROM THE CN1 AND CN2 . I DO NOT SEE ANY WRONG WITH THE IC COMP.'S

I've been searching every where to try and find something to fix my damn tv. Not sure if mine is the same? product #(FLM-323B) model #(3200)????? I keep on hearing about capacitors, I even found a video on you tube, but of coarse its for a different model. The red light turns blue when I press power button on side, no pic, no sound. I have to unplug to turn off. I hear a buzzing in the back.Frown

I checked the C6 capacitor with an analog meter to make sure it wasn't shorted and it checked out fine. I am not seeing any bulging caps on the board. I am getting voltage on the connectors so I would have to say that the problem would have to be in the IC chips. I have a guy checking on the IC's for it. If he can get them I will post back and let everyone know where to get them.

Re: [nuwk3r] Polaroid FLM-3232 no power "picture inside" [In reply to] Can't Post

I have the same power supply. I have a FLM-323B - LED turns from red to blue when you turn it on. No picture. I think my sound works though I have to check. I work in a electronics lab and have all need equipment available. This is my fourth LCD I'm trying to repair I'm 3 for 3 so far but having trouble with this one. A schematic of this Power supply would be great.
OK - I have 24 volt on CN3 pin 5. CN3 pin 7 goes from 0V to 5V when I turn the power on(red to blue) I know that this is all correct. The problem is I don't have any voltage on CN2, I think it should be 24V also. I have removed and checked all capacitors, diodes and resistors. Any help?

I will double check the voltages and let you know about the CN2 connector, but I believe the problem to be the IC chips. I have been waiting on a reply from a guy that was to check into getting these for me. I emailed him again just the other day and he said he forgot all about it. He is supposed to let me know either way if he can get them. Jdonovan19, if you figure something out before I do, please let us know. Thanks for any info you can give.

Re: [nuwk3r] Polaroid FLM-3232 no power "picture inside" [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks -

BTW - I have a 00 model (FLM-323B) and the yellow/orange power supply and not the black power supply.

Can someone confirm this - I think this is how this power supply works - When it is plugged in 24V is supplied to CN3 and routed to the control board and to the other circuits. This is how the red LED on the front is powered on. Then when the power button is pushed and the front panel LED turn blue, 5V is routed back to the Power supply board via CN3 pin 7. This turns on the other part/half of the power supply and routes ?? volts to the inverter board and the display comes on.

So if I'm right then my problem is only in the power supply. And I think that it is one of the IC's on the bottom (flipside) of the board. I looked up the datasheet for IC1 through IC4 (the photo-couplers)on the topside) and checked mine. they are good. So now I'm on to the flipside of the board now but I have not found any data on them yet.

Hey Guys,

New to here as well, with similar problems on the FLM3232 and have some electrical background (electrical and firmware engineer by trade).

What I noticed is that if I leave the TV power on, the blue screen will eventually turn into pictures (normal) and if you power the TV off then on it will stay on. The wait before the screen start showing TV is temperature dependent. The higher the temperature, the faster it turn on.

If you hook up the TV to composite, VGA, or RCA input, the video turns on immediately. Therefore I think it is the voltage (power) that is needed in the tuner.

I haven't get a chance to test out the voltage yet but I think the 24V for the tuner is temperature specific. I'm no power supply engineer or have the money to buy a refurb power supply ($150). What do you guys think about adding an external 24V source?

It seems that there are two versions of this board. If you have the black power supply board most likely you have failing caps. You can follow these instructions here to fix the board:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r741402-polaroid_flm_373b_lcd_tv_black_screen

I have the yellow/orange board so my problem is not that easy. I found a post where someone has had the exact same symptoms, red light then push power button and it turns to blue but nothing on the screen. They claimed to have fixed their TV by replacing the mainboard. Here is their post:

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/2/591213.html

Has anyone else tried changing out their mainboard?

For the orange power supply board ---- Did you check the diode near the heat sink at location Z9? This diode goes bad causing the transformer to short. You can replace it with an HER-305 rectifier diode. Also can someone tell me the model number of the black power supply for this TV? Thanks
